Membership and Player RegistrationThe 2011/2012 Season of NSW Wheelchair Rugby League (NSWWRL) kicks off Saturday 8 October at 1:30pm at Kevin Bett Stadium. After a block busting inaugural season last October players are revving up for this second season.

A sport that can be played by people of any age and any disability, Wheelchair Rugby League gives everyone the chance to play the greatest game of all ‘Rugby League’. This truly inclusive sport allows people with a disability and able-bodied people to play rugby league together on even playing ground.

The game is almost identical to rugby league but played on a field about half the size of an NRL ground with mini goalposts. With five players aside an AFL-style hand pass is used instead of a kick on the last tackle and to convert a try. There's plenty of speed and skill, whether it's a swerve on wheels, a cutout pass or a hand pass chip over the top.

Growing in popularity, the 2011/2012 competition will now include six Sydney teams and 40-odd players suffering various disabilities - the result of accidents or being born with spinal diseases or cerebral palsy. This Season will host teams that have been sponsored by NRL teams the Parramatta Eels, Sydney Roosters, Penrith Panthers, Canterbury Bulldogs, Canberra Raiders and Newcastle Knights.

President of the NSW Wheelchair Rugby League said “New South Wales Wheelchair Rugby League provides a fantastic program for athletes. We encourage disabled athletes to live a healthy lifestyle as well as gain rewards by setting and reaching their goals within Rugby League. The word has spread, two new teams have joined our competition and six NRL Clubs have granted our teams support. We couldn’t be more delighted. What a fantastic game we have.’’

There will be plenty of big hits and incredible skills as players show incredible courage, as much determination as their NRL heroes and a real appreciation for being able to play the game they love, even if it's a version on wheels.

Kicking off the 2011/2012 Season will be former NRL Player and NSWWRL supporter Matthew Head. Please show your support for people with a disability and the sport of Wheelchair Rugby League by attending the season opener at 1:30pm, Kevin Bett Stadium Ralph Street Mt Druitt.
