Newcastle Knights welcome Wheelchair Rugby League team
REPRESENTATIVES from the Newcastle Knights Wheelchair Rugby League team attended the team’s training run on Saturday and shared a BBQ lunch with the coaching staff and players.
The Knights WRL finished third in the competition this year and three of their players will travel to England in June to take part in the World Cup.
Being able to play with the Knights colours definitely adds to the professionalism of our sport
“We are heading overseas shortly so it is good to be able to come see how the boys train and plays they use so we can try and adapt them in to our version of the sport,” Knights and Australian representative Brad Grove said.
“It is great to have the Knights on board, the competition is mainly in Sydney at the moment so to have a regional team involved means that hopefully the competition will be able to grow to the North Coast shortly.”
Michael Johnson, Director of Marketing and Promotion for Wheelchair Rugby League Australia, said it was great for the players to be able to speak to coach Wayne Bennett and the players at the team’s training session.
“We couldn’t of done it without the Knights support,” he said.
“Being able to play with the Knights colours definitely adds to the professionalism of our sport and we are very grateful for the jerseys and appearances.”
